talk with GM, Mark Noland of Dromoland Castle Ireland

September 14th, 2016

Had a wonderful talk with Mark Nolan, General Manager of the Dromoland Castle in Ireland.  This was the ancestral home of the O’Briens of Dromoland who were the Kings of Thomond and whose lineage goes back 1,000 years to Brian Boru, the only High King of Ireland.Under glittering antique chandeliers descend grand staircases and meander through elegant hallways and beautifully furnished rooms. Luxuriate in plush, sink-in sofas in front of large, ornate fireplaces with blazing log fires. Relax as our unsurpassed, experienced and friendly staff takes special care of you.  The Earl of Thomond’s Restaurant offers you a heavenly dining experience you’ll remember forever. Appreciate the natural beauty as you stroll through the peaceful Dromoland Estate (with more than 400 acres to explore). Feed the ducks or take a boat out on the lovely lake. Why not try an archery class or enjoy our falconry experience? Or what about a round of golf or a relaxing spa date?Dromoland Castle is also within easy reach of the wonderful Wild Atlantic Way, the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren and all the delights that County Clare and County Limerick have to offer. Conveniently close to Shannon International Airport (gateway to the US and Europe), Dromoland Castle is the perfect place for your perfectly idyllic vacation.

Interview with Kert Shuster

September 8th, 2016

Most people see pharmacies as a place for the sick to fill prescriptions, or for the scraped and bruised to buy Band-Aids and ointments. Pharmacist Kert Shuster believes there’s much more to a drugstore than that.Had a talk with Kert Shuster from Rainbow Pharmacy..with locations in Kihei and Lanai. Kert is the owner of two Rainbow Pharmacies on Maui, Shuster is bringing the first full-service pharmacy to Lanai. This is his first business on the island, but Shuster’s values align with the community’s.He believes in an “old-school” style of pharmacy centered on the neighborhood drugstore, where kids might stop by after school for a snack and drink, and where the pharmacist knows each customer by name.“My focus has always been on the care and well-being of the people I serve,” he said. “Most people don’t think of pharmacy as a people profession, but at Rainbow Pharmacy I’m all about talking story and creating a sense of community.”

Spryo Gyra’s Founding member Jay Beckenstein

September 7th, 2016

Talked with Founding member of Spyro Gyra Jay Beckenstein..As Spyro Gyra looks forward to 2016 and beyond, they show no sign of slowing down. Over the last 40+ years, they have performed over five thousand shows, released thirty-one albums (not counting “Best Of…” compilations) selling over ten million albums while also achieving one platinum and two gold albums. Although few acts have accomplished this type of record, they have done it by constantly challenging themselves as is evidenced by their last studio release “The Rhinebeck Sessions” which was written and recorded over three days in the studio.Born in Brooklyn, bandleader Jay Beckenstein grew up listening to the music of Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins and Dizzy Gillespie, and started playing the saxophone at age seven. Beckenstein attended the University at Buffalo, starting out as a biology major before changing to music performance (read classical and avant garde). During summer breaks, he and an old high school friend, keyboardist Jeremy Wall, played gigs together back on Long Island. Wall attended college in California, and after both graduated, Beckenstein stayed in Buffalo’s thriving music scene, where Wall eventually joined him.
